別の自分としての人生 (..) (.. ) (⊙_☉)
There’s this show called Severance on Apple TV, one that I find incredibly intriguing. The premise? A company offers an extreme form of work-life balance: employees undergo a procedure that completely separates their work selves from their normal selves. It’s like the ultimate NDA—your “severed” self has no memories of who you are outside of work. They can talk, count, feel fear, and perform their job, but beyond that, they know nothing. They are you, but without you.
Now, here’s where it gets even more interesting. I think we already have something similar in real life. (Hold on, I need to feed my virtual pet—don’t worry, she’s legal… I think.)
Anyway, the point is, certain things in life can also create a kind of severed self—one that's completely disconnected from our usual identity. The difference is that, unlike Lumon’s version in Severance, our “severed” selves don’t always know what they want. Sometimes, they crave returning to who they were. Other times, they want to escape entirely. And then there are moments when they just exist in that state, unsure if they should stay or go—because, for better or worse, it feels different. Maybe even… good?
Damn, I still haven’t fed my VP yet…
