Truth or Happiness?
People paint themselves in favorable lights on social media, just because they can. But too much fiction can be a dangerous thing, and definitely is a misleading thing. That is why I said I want the whole truth, not half the truth, or whatever the percentage you show me on Instagram. I want the raw uncut footage, where besides golden sun light on the snow you are also freezing your ass off; sand cling to every part of your body, salty wind makes your skin sticky while you were taking beach photo; the emotions besides joy and happiness when it is finally that part of your life when you start struggling, be it from failure or success. Because there is no such thing as a total uninterrupted happiness. Life is not a story, and pain is the realest thing there is. If you want the truth, look for pain. Pinch your check to see if you are dreaming or not is common sense after all, right?
However, truth is a two edged blade. It shows you the reality, but it also takes away the immersiveness you need to really enjoy the story you are in. In other words, it is the only thing that stands between you and true happiness. Becausw the truth, besides all the glamorous ones, are the ugly, painful ones. Without pain, again, there can be no truth. A fictitious entity cannot feel anything unless you've given it you own pain and happiness. The only way you can do that is to believe in the story so much you make it real. A prime example is money, you now see it as an object with intrinsic value, not just some piece of paper or nowadays billions states of transistors anymore. Of course, it is still very easy to make the distinction; you just normally wouldn’t do that. Life is easier that way, and your biological brain knows that through roughly 300k years of evolution since when Homo Sapiens first arrived on earth.
It is probably a bit paradoxical and cruel when you know that you are just a determined machine that shits out whatever you get fed, but at the same time you don’t really have the power to control your desires. So you choose to follow a set of stories that you deemed “yours”, only to find out that there is no story you have truly chosen but it is a predetermined matrix again, just one that is much larger than what you can comprehend and handle. But that’s OK. You just need to focus on one thing at a time. You don’t need the whole truth to survive anyway. And there is no whole truth, that’s the point; the truth is that nothing has any meaning. So you gotta choose your version of truth. And the closest you can get is pain. Pain, on the other hand, can be anything. Losing a lover or losing a limb. Making lots of money because you have been so poor as a child and no money because you gambled it all away. Pain is what you can turn almost anything into. Pain is what validates your story. And trying to get rid of pain and suffering is a noble cause, that also validates your story. Some methods may not be the most effective or efficient way to handle pain, but they are still meaningful nonetheless. We just need to find the best way to eradicate pain, but as soon as we managed to do that, our stories are no longer real. There is no living legend.
So, what to take home after all of this?
Your life may not meaningful to the universe, but it is meaningful to you and to any people and any creatures who feels the pain from your story. So, your life is real to you and those beings. What you choose to do will affect you and those beings. That’s your power: to alternate your and other beings’ truth by removing or adding pain to their lives.
